Hello everyone- it’s May tomorrow so welcome to our May newsletter!
Learning topics
In addition to our everyday activities we will continue our focus on
“Planting & Growing”.
One of the things we have already planted are pumpkin seeds which may have already arrived home. The primary school usually have a pumpkin competition during the autumn term. With this in mind we have thought ahead and got them already planted. With a bit of love and care- you never know these may well be good to be entered and maybe win a prize!
They will also be bringing home a planted sunflower seed in a little pot and also a personalised terracotta pot which they will be busy decorating and then filling with some bedding plants. Hopefully these will look great on your door step, windowsill or patio.
We would be very grateful of small contribution for the terracotta pots in particular with a suggested donation of £3.
This can be sent to our usual bank account 09.01.51 08455300 Addingham Preschool PG and quote ref: “pots” or a cash donation in the bucket in the foyer. Thank you very much
People Who Help us
During the weeks beginning Monday 11th and 18th we will be learning about different occupations. We have visits arranged from a nutritionist, a road crossing person, a postman, a dentist and hopefully the community police. Very exciting! There’s still room to accommodate anyone else if you know of anyone who would be happy to come along for 20-30mins to talk about their occupation!
We the break for half term on Friday 22nd May for a week and return Monday 1st June.
Please don’t forget we are also close on Monday 4th May for May Day.
We will also continue to focus on school transition activities, school readiness skills and on our literacy programme with a focus on rhyme, alliteration and oral blending.
Peter the Pilot
Many of our older children are already holding a pencil really well and have good pencil control. As you will know we have many activities here which we use to develop these skills on an everyday basis. However- we are sending home with everyone a little activity booklet (along with a pencil) which was put together by a Paediatric OT friend of ours, in particular to help children who need a little extra support in gaining these skills- but also good for everyone! Please have a look at it and hopefully this is something you may like to do with your child at home.
Addingham Primary School Starters Sept 2026 Stay ‘n’ Play sessions
You will have received some information from school which includes the invitation to stay ‘n’ play sessions. As previously mentioned on fb- the option of 17th June is our Nell Bank trip- so I reckon those who are coming with us will not choose that option. There is another date of Wed 24th June and I understand there will be another date offered that will be emailed to you. If you would like your child to attend any session(s) and they are in pre school with us you can either take them out of preschool to attend with you or we can take them through if you don’t plan to attend. Please let us know if you would like us to take your child through and the dates they are to attend. Thank you
Sunny weather
We are very much enjoying the lovely sunny weather and we spend a lot of time outside making the most of it. Please ensure they arrive with sun cream already applied and a sun hat please. We have sun cream in case you forget or they need a top up. If you choose to bring your own cream for top up’s just let us know please.
Preschool tea towels
Every year we create a tea towel which includes every child’s self- portrait on the one tea towel. Whether or not you choose to use it as a tea towel or do other things with it e.g. a framed picture for the kitchen, a present to a family or friend or simply a keepsake- they are lovely and a great reminder of your child’s time here and drawing skills at that time! We will be selling them for £4 each and you can have many as you wish! Please let me know how many you would like to order. You can pay for your order now or later- it’s up to you. If we send it to be printed next
week we will hopefully have them end of May/ beginning of June. Again-bank details as mentioned in the plant pots and this time please quote “towel”. Thank you
Cookery Books
Upon having a tidy out- I have found some recipe books which we out together a few years ago. We didn’t manage to sell them all- and have a few left. There are some great family recipes in there which were family favourites of some of the families and staff we had at the time. Have a look at one- they are in the foyer, and if you fancy one they are £2 each. Thank you
Looking ahead to June and July…….
St Peters Family Fun Day Saturday 13th June 1-5pm This is a lovely family event and preschool will be there running a stall. This will be a toy tombola. If anyone has any soft toys, small games, puzzles, books etc which they would like to donate- we would love to have them! Due to us having limited storage space here in preschool – any donation would be gratefully received the week before the event- so plenty of time to do some sorting out! Thank you
Nell Bank Wednesday 17th June
I will be reminding you of the plan of action for the day nearer the time. But in the meantime, I would appreciate the voluntary contribution for the coach hire and nell Bank of £20 please- by trip day. I need to send out
an invoice for this. Hopefully these will go out next week. Thank you
Sponsored 10K Bike ride Friday 26th June
We did this children’s fundraising event 2 years ago and it was very exciting and raised money for preschool! Basically- by us working out how many laps need to be completed to notch up an overall 10K- the children then complete the laps either on one of our bikes or scooters or they can bring their own. The event will commence at 2pm in the large playground and will finish around 3pm. Any parents, family or friends who would like to come and cheer them along are very welcome to do so between 2-3 pm. It is such fun! Any child not in preschool on a Friday afternoon can still take part by coming along at 2pm. (parent or carer to then stay please) I will send a sponsor form home soon and hopefully you can get lots of sponsorship!
Addingham Gala Saturday 11th July
The theme this year is ‘Out of This World’ and we have already come up with a fab idea for preschool as we will be participating in the parade. More details to follow but save the date and we would love as many children (with their parents) to be involved in the parade on the Saturday afternoon
Last day of term is Friday 17th July. Just to give you plenty of notice- we will be finishing the day at 11.45 for our younger cohort of children (those not going to school in September). This then allows us to hold a leavers party for those leaving for school. This will be 12- 2pm. We will then finish for the summer at 2pm. If your child is leaving us for school and wouldn’t normally attend on a Friday- we would love them to be there if at all possible.
Think that’s it for now!
