The Early Years Foundation Stage framework is a set of standards for the care and education of children from birth to five. It’s a statutory framework which we are legally bound to adhere to as are all early years settings including schools ( reception class) and childminders.
The EYFS framework aims to:
- Ensure children have a consistent and high-quality learning experience
- Support children’s development in a safe and nurturing environment
- Prepare children for their next stage of learning
- Provide equality of opportunity for children of all backgrounds
- Encourage partnership working between parents and practitioners
The EYFS covers 7 learning areas:
- Communication and Language
- Personal, social and emotional development
- Physical development
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive arts and design
The EYFS overarching principles are:
- Every child is unique and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured
- children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.
