EYFS ( Early Years Foundation Stage)

The Early Years Foundation Stage framework is a set of standards for the care and education of children from birth to five. It’s a statutory framework which we are legally bound to adhere to as are all early years settings including schools ( reception class) and childminders.

The EYFS framework aims to:

  • Ensure children have a consistent and high-quality learning experience
  • Support children’s development in a safe and nurturing environment
  • Prepare children for their next stage of learning
  • Provide equality of opportunity for children of all backgrounds
  • Encourage partnership working between parents and practitioners

The EYFS covers 7 learning areas:

  • Communication and Language
  • Personal, social and emotional   development
  • Physical development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive arts and design

The EYFS overarching principles are:

  • Every child is unique and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured
  • children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.
